Using Phosband reactor to run carbon?

Can this be done? It seems like this may be a cheaper alternative to a cannister filter to run carbon if it can be... Thanks for the input!

Sure you can do it....I've done it for a year now and works great!

I thought about running both at 1 time.

seems like it would work, but I think carbon needs to be swapped more frequently than phosban, so it wouldnt be very efficient.

any other thoughts on this?

I think you'd also want to run carbon and phosban at different flow rates, but some folks do run them together.

I've ran them together, with no problems. I now use my Phosban reactor as a fluidized bed filter.

Awesome... Thanks for the replies guys...

Now for another question... What kind (brand?) of carbon would work best in this application? I know there are different types, and it seems like if you were to use carbon in the Phosban reactor you'd want to use some sort of filter floss to keep the media in or something? Suggestions?

I use kent's reef carbon in mine. The TLF reactor comes with 2 sponges in it to keep the media from going all over.

They work awesome with a maxi jet 400 or 600
