Non-Producing Aqua C Urchin

I have an Aqua C Urchin Skimmer (not the pro) with a newer Maxi Jet 1200. I can't pull a full cup of skimmate from it even if I do not clean the cup for a month. It is on a 70 gallon system with 2 blue damsels, 1 maroon clown, 130 lbs of LR, 120 lbs of LS, and a 15 gallon sump. It is a SPS tank with roughly 15-20 different types of corals. Any ideas on what I can do to increase my skims? I was thinking of going to a larger pump even though I know aqua c doesn't advise it. But, I know that my tank can't be that clean that I'm not pulling anything.

Any advice would be helpful!

Thanks,

Jason

I forgot to add that the skims that I do produce are VERY VERY dark in color. But, they aren't solid so there is some liquid there.

^bump... Anyone have any thoughts on this or heard of someone else overdriving this skimmer?

Jason

I have one in my frag tank and run a Mag 3 on it and it works much better. The maxi just doesn't have the push that the mag does. By the way, it is the only Mag pump I have that is in any of my tanks. I hate them but it does work on this skimmer.

Awesome... That's what I needed to hear! Like I said I am getting so frustrated with this skimmer due to the lack of skims and was very close to getting rid of it this week and just getting a larger Aqua C 120. But, I'll give this a try before I go there as this tank wont be holding my stuff for much longer.

Thanks again sirreal63,

Jason

The Remora and Urchin were never world class skimmers and never will be. Don't expect a lot out of them.

Well, I wasn't hoping a whole lot out of it... Just more than what I have right now. I didn't buy the skimmer myself. It came with the setup when I bought the whole thing from someone who sold me the rig.

Thanks again

Keep the cup clean and let it skim wet. It will help.
