Custom Master Skimmer sump questions
Hi Graeme, Roger,
I have a 9420 on order, but would like to proceed with my sump plans. Do you have suggestions for or links to a sump design specifically for the Master skimmers? Some questions I have right now are: - How much space do I need between the top of my sump & the top of the opening of my stand for easy access to the skimmer? - The PDF on the Tunze website lists immersion depths between 3.9" & 14.5", is there a sweet spot? I do not want to plan for the sump to be 12" tall if the 9420 skims better when submerged 14" deep. - Will performance suffer if the skimmer chamber is also the drain chamber (where water from the tank enters into)? Does the skimmer perform better if given its own dedicated chamber? Thanks, Jeff |

The ideal depth is between 8-14". If the chamber is not excessively turbulent from the drain it should be OK. The minimum you need from the top of the skimmer to the top of the satnd is 6" to comfortably lift up and remove the cup.
