Reef Safe Wrasse
Other than a 6 line wrasse what kind would you recommend for a good pest scavenger? I don't have pests (that I know of) but thought I'd start researching which wrasse would be a good future addition to the 55g. It does have some SPS, LPS and zoas in it now. I do plan on getting a clam in the future as well.
I do like the look of the flashers and fairies. I'm not opposed to a six line but since I have time to research (my tank has only been fallow for 32 days now) I thought I'd ask for some advice. In the hospital tank at the moment, a yellow tang and a banded dragon goby. ++note++ I realize that the yellow tang is going to need a bigger home and that will be accomplished. I also have other tank upgrades in the works such as Koralias on order and my custom canopy and stand. Hence the reason for the blinding glare from the MHs at the top of the tank. |

They are beautiful, but isn't their care similiar to a mandarian?

I'm a bit concerned about the coris knocking over stuff as well as being around some of the inverts and shrimp.

That one looks like an excellent candidate. Think it will go after my featherduster? A quick read on them just now said they might. I do realize you can't guarantee anything, just looking for what is common and what others have experienced.

Lol---reefsafe means simply it won't eat most of your corals. Says nothing about eating its suite-mates.
Wrasses or dottybacks of whatever type will harass and possibly kill any fish that doesn't shove back, in their own or smaller size category. Just make sure you don't have any potential targets: can't blame them---it's just what they do. They're predators, they view other fish as potential meals or rivals or too big to eat, and that's their world.

I have several different species of wrases in my tanks, including a red corris wrasse. The big problem with a red corris is the size as they get big. Mine is currently about 6" long and has changed to it's adult colors. Beautiful fish in my book.
The only wrasse I've had probelsm with is my blue headed wrass taking a likeing to shrimp I try to put in the tank. My Red Corris has only been a problem with moving rocks around looking for food. But then again, my female Marron clown can also throw around some big rocks when she dosen't like where they are. My Wrasse population: 72G Blue headed Green lepoard 400G Red Corris Lepoard Carpenter flasher Yellow Yellow-Flanked fairy 6 line I've also had a Red Head Solon Fairy which was also fine.

Melanurus Wrasse. It's a beautiful, inexpensive reef-safe wrasse. They will go after smaller snails (nassarius, cerith) and inverts though, been safe with all my corals. I've got a cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp that it's fine with. Mine has only had trouble with another wrasse in the tank. It likes to be the only one.

I used to have a sixline but now I really prefer our leopard. It is awsome and does not bother anyone like the sixline did.

Beautiful wrasse yeld, but with all the warnings on clams I'm reading about some of the "reef safe" wrasses I'm wondering if I shouldn't just avoid them all together.

i've never seen any of my wrasses nip clams. I've had carpenters, filemented, etc.......Any of those would never nip a clam. You should be 99.99999999999999% safe with most flasher or fairy wrasses.
