what else is in there? Generally in reef tanks, you have high flow...and from what i've been able to gather, pipefish need lower flow. Also, i know they're really shy eaters, so if there are other fish in there, it prolly wont eat, and its already difficult to feed to begin with...

Also, contrary to popular belief, the little guys are strong swimmers. Dragonface Pipefish (Corythoichthys haematopterus), once established to the aquarium conditions, can anchor themselves on the branches of Acropora and begin to feed on tiny crustaceans as well as red bugs. You want to be able to provide them with lots of caves to dive into if startled.
Many more pics in the Seahorses & Pipefish Forum area.

Thanks for that Lvreefer, I love them but have thought I needed to stay away from them for fear they'd starve with faster fish in the tank.

We have 2 pipefish in our 300 gal. One dragonface and one banded, both are fine the dragonface actually likes to play in the flow, the banded only comes out at night.

ya from what i have learned and seen they manage fine in strong flow. what you said is true, they anchor themselves to whatever they can grab. i am thinking about the dragonface or multibanded. what do you guys feed yours?
