cleaning 5 gallon buckets
I have a few 5 gallon buckets that were used in the cleaning up of our house. Would i be able to get away with washing them out with bleach and letting them dry. Then being able to use them for ro/salt water? They are physically clean, but i am afraid of what chemicals may have been left behind.

What kind of chemicals were in them to begin with? I, personally, wouldn't risk it if you're worried (after all 5 gallon buckets are pretty cheap from wal-mart usually).
But if you do want to clean them, I would go with vinegar instead of bleach.

Don't risk it. Buy a new one and have it specifically for the tank. Like RichConley said, they are cheap and easy to find.

Bleach? Ouch...
I wouldn't do it. But if you absolutely have to I would power wash them and scrub them with vinegar. Then rinse with water. But as said before.... $3 at home depot.... |

Whats the concern about bleach? Bleach is one of the few safe chemicals. It almost totally evaporates, and anything that doesnt evaporate can be totally eliminated with a little anti-chlorine water conditioner.

i agree richconley. Vinegar is good, but i've never had a problem with bleach before. Maybe vinegar's low pH would break down chemicals that bleach's high pH can't? I don't know. anyone else?
