To Dwarf Angel or not to Dwarf Angel...
...that is the question.
I set up the 120 again and after a fight with ich, flukes and a bacterial infection (lost a beautiful Asfur Angel), I am considering adding a new fish. Currently the tank houses: Bluefaced Angel (4") (sole purpose in setting up the tank) Scopas Tang (2") (algae controll and I really like them - a bit bland though) Mystery Wrasse (the wife really likes this fish - we have 2 now) Lawnmower Blenny (found one that constantly munches on algae) I was collecting (and will start up again) a mushroom tank and want to add some new color in the fish department. I was thinking either a Potters Angel or a Coral Beauty - both would add a splash of purple and orange/red and both are available. Neither of them do anything maintenance wise, but they look nice and I have never kept one. is either of these a known mushroom eater? I was also thinking of adding a Golden Wrasse for pest control so that should cover the additional yellow. What do you guys think? Should I not bother with fish anymore and just focus on the mushroom collection?

I have a maculosis living in my reef sump. I've had her since she was the size of a nickel. I know you'll take good care of her, so she's yours if you want her.

The Flame has better color than both the Coral Beauty and the Potters. I love the Potters though and I would go with one of them.

That is very generous Mike - I will definately think about that.
Was she munching on your reef?

It's a long story, but she needs a GOOD home. I also have an arc-eye hawkfish you could have for the 120 as well. He will eat small shrimp though...
If you decide you want either one or both, lmk. |

I got 2 angels in my tank and they don't eat any shrooms or any corals for that matter. My dwraf is a flame angel.

Every dwarf I've ever had has nipped/eaten at any coral possible. I've been a fan of the flames, but all 5 I tried would eat coral. I would think the coral beauty would be least likely to nip...
good luck! |

Broke1 has a flame in his 240 and it has yet to touch anything. He has a ton of SPS in the tank. I just picked up a flame yesterday, so I guess I will see if I get lucky and have a non-nipper.

Have had two flames die - one had popeye, etc in QT, the other just disappeared after appearing to be fine.
Maybe you ought to wait a while given the problems you have had (not dissimilar from mine)? Maybe I am just frustrated having spent the dollars twice on the flame just to get burned (no pun intended)

Potters can be fragile shippers from what I hear. Get the smallest one you can and make sure there is no shipping damage i.e. torn fins, wounds. Also make sure it is eating prepared foods before you take it home. They like to graze on the rocks and if you can get them to take nori the usually do well.

Thank you all for your help.
Sounds like these fish are like most - some will nip, some won't. It appears we have about an 80% chance that the dwarfs will be good with corals, better since the corals will only be mushrooms.

I have an Eibli in my tank and it's a great little addition.
Doesn't nip and does well cleaning up the rocks. |
