Fish stocking ideas ...
I'm trying to plan a future SW tank for the first time after doing quite abit of extensive research (going on 4 months) in SW aquaria keeping. I'm looking to start with a 46G BF tank and have the following fish :
A pair of O. Clowns (1 regular orange and 1 B&W O. clown) Royal Gramma I'm looking at least 1 more fish at the most. It will be FOWLR set-up. Any good fish ideas ? Firefish I don't want due to they're notorious jumpers. Gobies are nice but kinda shy most times. I definitely have no interests in tangs or triggers. |

I just put a Yellow Watchman Goby in my tank and WOW does he have character. Nothing shy about this guy. He is front and center doing whatever he pleases.
Be careful on the Royal Gramma, some people have had aggresive issues with them. I've never had one so my commment is not from experience. |

The Watchman Goby needs a sand bed and plenty of rock to hide in.
He'll sift through the sand and hang out all over the rock. I don't know that the sand bed needs to be that deep, but it does need to be there. I have between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of sand. I don't see him need more than that... |

Since it's a FOWLR, I'd go with any of the smaller dwarf angels, maybe even a pair of pygmy angels.
How about fathead anthias? A nice pair maybe...

I looked at dwarf angels as one of my choices but I have concerns of them nipping corals. I also know they're 50/50 with corals. I want to add beginner corals first, let them settle in DT for a couple months before adding any fish. Most likely will be beginner corals under PC lighting - Zoos, mushrooms, maybe some xenias and possibly a kenya tree coral (but not sure if I want to go with one).
Possible dwarf angels : Coarl Beauty African Pygmy Dwarf The one dwarf I really love to get my hands on is the Multi-Color Dwarf Angel but they're pricey. Even if I do go for a dwarf angel, it will be the last and final fish added. |

Are the Fatheads hardy?
I was considering some fatheads, but while doing research I noticed that some sites won't offer the "Arrive Alive" guarantee on them because they don't ship well/aren't hardy. I don't know if them being "not-hardy" is true or not cause I've never owned one, but I ended up going with some Dispar Anthias, which so far appear to be doing fine. FTDelta- The Dispars needs to be kept in groups of at least 3 with a ratio of 1 male per 2 females, so if you go this route you won't have much space left in your 46G tank... They are however beautiful. The colors are amazing! |

I thought it was going to be a FOWLR setup! What's all this coral talk??
Rather than adding corals first I'm adding my fish first, and keeping the salinity low to avoid ich and to make it easier for them to breath. I'll give them a couple of months to settle in, and then begin raising the salinity until its high enough so that the corals can be added. That's just my plan though and its been working well so far... |
