help on schuran nitrate filter needed!

i have ran the filter for around 2 months but how come the bottom of the filter became like that , what can i do ?

that's normal, it's the bacteria colony on the sulfur media.

i have emailed to Schuran and they asked me to clean up the nitrate filter . it seems the output at the bottom have been jammed up

there is no circulation from the bottom

even with good circulation on tanks with high NO3 levels it's very common for the bacteria to colonize the media like that and until the levels of the system get brought down, you may have to occasionally take the reactor down and wash the sulfur beads in tank water to clean them.

u need to increase the flow rate for that sulphur reactor. your MV within the reactor way too low. u will have to wash down the reactor, as too much film build up will cause clogging until u are left with little or no flow from the effluent.

IMO u can't just rely on guessing the drip rates, u need to know whats going on inside that reactor. sulphur reactor can take slightly higher ORP then normal denitrators. use a proper controller to mantain the flow effluent with a solenoid and it will save u lots of time. if not, everyday will need to check the effluent for smell. at least get a ORP monitor and i'll give u more time to view your tank. -220 > -280 is what i find to be the best MV levels. higher then -280 and u'll get that **** clogging up the damn reactor.
