Beach sank ok to use in tank?
I have several buckets of sand that my dad brought me from a secluded beach area in pensacola over 2 years ago. It has been sitting outside in buckets with lids on them. I am going to set up a 55 gallon FOWLR tank and was wondering if I wash this sand really good if it will be okay to use it in the tank? Thanks for your advice.

It's much better if collected from underwater, beach sand can contain oil and petroleoum pollution b/c it rises to the top.
I would just wash it out really good with freshwater, maybe let it soak for a couple of days, changing the water several times. Other than that I'd say just use common sense, if you see a bunch of rainbow slime rise to the top of the bucket I'd suggest throwing it out, but if it looks clean you should be good to go. I've used both marsh mudd and beach sand/rubble in my tanks with no harm. Didn't wash the marsh mudd but did wash the beach sand/rubble.
