What are your thoughts on De-Nitrate by Seachem

I am thing about getting some of this stuff, what are your thoughts. I tried to do a search, but it is down ATM. Some any help, will help.

I am going to do a good sized water change, I am looking at keeping the nitrate as low as I can, I backed down to feeding my fish 1 time a day.

Thank you!

I would get a Midwest denitrator, or Coralline.
I have the Midwest, now for 8 months,--if you want 0 NO3 get one.

I keep it running full blast--no restriction in the water output--w/ an aqualifter.---beats a BSB

Contact us through our site, www.erbio.com denitrators tend to be very expensive (300 - 400). We have quite a few options if you're interested.

I use De-Nitrate in my 75g reef. I have a Renx XP2 full of it running, and it did wonders for my over-stocked tank. My nitrates went from about 40ppm down to 10 in the first 2 weeks, I am now at nearly zero. it took about a month. From what the directions say, you do not need to change this stuff out unless nitrates start to rise....so far so good. The water is much clearer also!

What's the difference between base rock rubble and De-nitrate? Base rock rubble is about $2-3/lb. maybe, but De-nitrate is $8.50/lb.

That is the trouble, I don't think there really is much of a difference between De-nitrate and base rock rubble. Same idea really. A de-nitrator will be much more effective.

I like the Seachem Product.

IME making your own nitrate reactor can be done for less then $25. Rio 90, empty bottle of water, airline hose, pretty cheap and very effective.

I have used Seachems De Nitrate with excellent results. Provided you keep the flow through the media below 200 litres an hour it will never become overloaded.

For faster flow applications they recommend using Seachem Matrix instead.

Phil.

they have some good ones on ebay for cheap. you might have to check the stores after you type in denitrator in the search.

Why spend $400 on a denitrate reactor when you can buy a jar of denitrate for $20, a maxijet 400 for $15 (100 GPH). Drill a hole to stuff the maxijet on the cap, drill 10-20 smaller holes on the bottom end. Point the jar upward in your sump (so the flow has to fight gravity). And there you go, a $40 dinitrate reactor in your sump able to treat up to 200 gallons of water.

Ehaze, just google denitrators, there are few good DIY projects out there.

Here is one.....

http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/pro...coildenitr.htm

I have one from Aqua Pure (http://www.aquaripure.com/). I have had it in Service know for the last two years. My nitrates consistently test zero.
