I have a 29 gallon fish tank with a 10 gallon sump. I have an Aqua C Remora with a maxi-jet 1200 on it in my sump. I have had it for about a 2.5 months. It used to pull skim constantly. About the last 2 weeks, i have been only getting 1/4 of an inch of skim a week. I have tried cleaning the tubes with the brush. I have also cleaned it. My Nitrates are about 40ppm. I do water changes every week. I am frustrated with messing with it. I know you can upgrade to a mag 3, but my water temperature is already so high. What should I do?????

Whats the bioload? How much water are you changing? How much do you feed?

I may be crazy, but I've noticed that when my Remoras (have two) start skimming poorly my calcium and alkalinity levels are usually low. I've never heard anyone mention a relationship between chemistry and skimmer function before, so take this with several grains of salt.
I dose with B-Ionic to raise my ca & alk. Sometimes I get lazy and forget for several days (or more . . .). When I start adding again, the Remoras skim better. I'm probably just imagining things, but maybe it's worth checking? |

I change 6 1/2 gallons of water a week. I feed a piece of a shrimp once a week. I am confused on why my skimmer will not perform. I have cleaned all the pipes. I was wondering if anyone else has any ideas. Please. Oh ya thanks for the info about B-ionic
