specific gravity
what is everyone's favorite specific gravity level for a reef tank with fish. I was thinking of starting off at 1.025, what do you all think?

I believe the recommended specific gravity is 1.026. This is the natural specific gravity on average.

Specific Gravity Level
I visited my local saltwater fish store over the weekened and they told me that between 1.025 and 1.028 was a good specific gravity level and I was always told 1.025 and they told me that the sea has a specific gravity level of 1.028[/

SG changes with temperature. Many hydrometers are calibrated to 68 degrees F which puts SG at 1.026 for 35 PPT (natural seawater). I won't get into it here because this has been discussed a lot.
I use a refractometer (around 50 dollars) and go for 35 PPT and don't concern myself with the SG. |

I am using a refractometer as well and there is a conversion on left side to specific gravity thats why I referred to it

what does your refractometer read at 35 PPT? that is what I use. mine reads 1.026 (conversion at 68 degrees F). If you are using a refractometer, don't worry about SG, just use PPT
Hope that helps. |

By the way, for FO, people often use lower salinity (I don't).
