Koralia vs Nano-Stream
I'm looking for something for my 90 gallon tank to run on my aqua controller.
Looking for something smaller, and quiet on the wavemaker. The Koralia uses less wattage, with a greater flow rate, and is cheaper. But I know Tunze products are pretty nice, plus its mod-able for more flow. I'd like to hear any opinions! Wasn't there a comparison done a while back? Robbie

Depending what koralia you are looking at size may be an issue. The k-4's are very large. I use 2 modded 6025's and they blow a very nice about of flow, close to 1000 gph, i couldn't be more satisfied.

I love my Tunze pumps. I own both larger streams and nano streams and couldn't be happeir. Tunze pumps just can't be turned on and off alot. It's best if you wait alteast 15 minutes before switching modes/turning them off/on. The nano streams really don't give off as much flow as some people would like. The flow pattern is spaced out and alot wider that say a maxi-jet.

i have a 6045 and a 6025. i love them and have modded the 6025. The mod makes it so that it will occasionally start up in the wrong direction. So i would not recommend it on a wave maker except perhaps the Seio one.

Have owned both the Tunze and Hydor.
Price, quietness, mounting, self-correcting rotation at startup - Hydor. Style, customer service, flow pattern, modability - Tunze. Neither will work with a wavemaker. The Seio controller is more of a surge maker, but will work with both. My advice: buy the Koralias and run them all the time while you save up for a pair of 6055s and a multicontroller. Better get on the waiting list now. Might take a while. |

neither one will work on a wavemaker.
i prefer the tunze 6025 modded over any of the k's. I use a modded 6025[modded] and k4 in my 90gal with a tunze wavebox. Last edited by USC-fan; 08/28/2007 at 11:19 PM. |

I like my K4 but they actually run a little higher in wattage then they are reported. I cant recall the exact numbers but it was a few more watts then what was originally reported.
The rumor mill was that hydor was going to revamp the line and release a controller in fall/winter. I dont have the knowledge to figure out if this is true or not but if so that could become a big tipping point for these ph's. I hope that prop based options will become more common in the next couple of years. Some competition would be nice in this area. |

I'll have to argue about them running on a wavemaker - my younger brother has been running the 6025s on a wavemaker for a year or longer now.
The rattle a little on startup, but it doesn't seem to be a problem. Robbie

I have 2 K3's in my 75g along with a Tunze 6025. I like the Koralia it is a solid well made pump and gives a nice amount of flow. The Tunze has a nice gentle flow but I am disappointed with the construction of this pump as I have stated before it seems very cheaply made and has some design flaws that hopefully Tunze will fix in the future.
Also some people dislike the size of the Koralia but honestly it is only slightly longer than my Tunze and the diameter is about the same so I did not see the issue that people were talking about. Plus once the Korallia gets covered in coralline algae they will blend nicely and you will hardly even notice them, I actually think they look kind of cool. Overall I am happier with my Koralia's and they cost less so they are my pump of choice for now. My SPS seem to love the flow. ( I can post a pic of the Tunze and Koralia running side by side in my tank later.)

I like the korallia, I have a 3 and 4 in my tank now, and they work great. the only thing I do not like is the plastic propeller shaft, it broke on the #3 right away, but that was becuase I tried taking the cover off and broke it myself, but it still works fine even though it is cracked.(it was a clean break, goes back together easily, lol) I need to find out how to get a new shaft for it though.
they are just so much less expensive than the tunzes are, and if a controller comes out in the future, I think they will be number one with hobbiests due to price.

Am I right that the Korallia pump works with a magnetic base? Does the magnetic base work on 3/4 " plywood tank? How about 1/2" plywood?

I have a K2, a K3, and a 6025 nanostream.. I have to say, I think I like the nanostream a little more than the comparable pump (k2).. I am thinking about replacing my K2 with another 6025. Seems to move more water and the flow spread is perfect.. not to narrow, not too wide.. just right. The K3 puts out a lot more flow than the K2.. btw. My tank is 1/2 acrylic and all the magnetic holders work fine with it.. the Tunze magnets are stronger, but the koralias have rubber suction ends + magnets.. so it's about a wash..
