What do my fellow hobbyists do..
When you lose a coral colony to advanced tissue recession ( RE: I just lost a Trachyphyllia Geoffyri that I bought as a scracth & dent" coral at a LFS, it had been 50% buried in the substrate. Obviously not successful though it looked like it might make it for a couple of months.) or other factors.
Do you leave the skeleton in the tank for more calcium or remove it? What is your opinion? Regards, Matthew |

SUmp, for more breakwater against the flow in my refugium; or what nature does: part of the reef: real good at holding future frags.

Yeah, I'm gonna leave it in the tank as either part of the LR ( good site for a future small frag ) or place it in the sand. Let it do what would happen in Nature. Also, kinda attractive as a tank decoration.

Montipora skeletons go in my collection of keepers. I'll be getting a microscope and identification references eventually. They'll be my practice pieces. Any other skeletons usually become frag mounts or tossed in the sump.

Hmm, never even thought of that one. I collect shells, corals would be interesting. Though I tend towards collecting live ones.

Depends on the size/shape/type of skeleton. I may let other SPS grow on it, or zoas. Otherwise I remove it.
Leaving it in there "for more calcium" is not going to do anyhting for your water's calcium level, BTW, if that's what you mean.

I got some in the sump, some in the back yard and some on top the canopy pending new frags. mounting.

Yeah, I get that. I'm just gonna leave it there as a potential attachment for a frag of something. Though now that he said that above, it might be interesting to keep a study collection of the corals themselves ( er the stony part.)
