weird soft coral

can anyone id this soft coral for me ..

a friend of mine got it for me as a gift, i didn't want to put it in my 400g tank, but it looked gorgeous and i said what the heck.

it moves with little yellow legs like octopus legs, and it has something that sticks out of it like a Christmas tree in red and white colors.

my yellow tang seems to be swimming next to it with an attack dance! is that normal?

is this coral reef safe? fish safe? any info about this would be appreciated.

Is that a sea apple? Do a google search to compare.

I've only seen one in a LFS so I might be wrong. If I'm right, they are HIGHLY toxic if they get stressed or die.

God bless,
Basset

Definitely a sea apple. They can wipe out your fish population with toxins which in turn could crash a tank. They are also difficult to feed long term and many just slowly waste away in captivity.

That one is closed. If you think it looks cool now, wait until you see it open. For the reasons others have stated, they are a little risky to keep in a typical size tank.

Get rid of that stupid thing. I had one and it nearly killed everything in my tank.
