skimmer adjustments - help

I have a euroreef rs5-3 skimmer, a good quality skimmer

my tank is a 37g cube w/ 20L sump w/ 20L fuge also, so around 70g total of water volume

the tank has been running for about 10 months and I have 2 fish (pink skunk clown, YWG)

anyways...I never have to empty my skimmer cup because I never have more than 1" of skimmate in it

I even mesh modded the skimmer, so I have billions of bubbles in there, but the foam gets to the top kind of pulses and never overflows into the cup

I dont understand the whole riser tube thing, so I dont know how to adjust that correctly

my skimmer is sitting in exactly 9" of water

any suggestions?

I would adjust the water level until you get something that works. Try setting it on a small stand or somesuch.

To be honest, your skimmer is probably working just perfectly. You simply don't have a lot of "bio-load" for that size system, so there is little to pull out of the water. Doubly so because of the refugium, which accomplishes the same thing as a skimmer more-or-less.

Otherwise, try putting it on a small stand to raise it about two inches. Egg-crate and PVC fittings work well for this, as it keeps the space below fairly open. Worked wonders for our RS80, give it a shot!

Cheers,
Marty
