Pics of my changing Emperor Angel

Bored tonight and thought I'd share the progress of my changing Angel.

Not sure how old he was when I bought him Mar of this year. He was 3.5" at the time. I took the "Sept" pic today. He's about 4.5" now. What a beautiful fish. He was really changing alot between May and July. The changes now are more subtle.

Anyone have any idea how much longer it'll take for him to be fully changed? A friend of mine says they can get "stuck" if they're stressed. Anyone ever heard of this?

Enjoy!

March

April

May

June

July

August

Sept

Yeah I think you're right. I just looked at a fully matured adult. My emperor looks pretty darn close.

That's awesome! My wife saw a juvenile at the LFS one time and mentioned how cool it was. I then tried to explain what they transform into. I just showed her the pics. I always wondered if somebody would post something like this.

Thanks for posting them!

Thanks. I'm sure stuff like this gets posted pretty often. The posts get moved off the front page pretty quickly.

Very cool! I've had mine since about the same time and he's a pig. same size as well, but it hasn't started its change yet.

The first pic was in Mar, and the last pic was yesterday. Took a pic for every month.

Been feeding mine 3 times a day. A combination of Angel forumla from Ocena Nutrition, Forumla 2, Nori, and a homemade fish food recipe from Eric Borneman. Definitely a pig! I'm sure he'll come around. Like I siad, I'm not sure how old he was when I first got him.

Thanks. When I bought him I was hoping he'd change by the end of the summer. My buddy said now way and brought up the whole possibility of it getting stuck. Looks like luck was on my side.

Beautiful fish. Any problems with him nipping on your corals?

Thanks. He goes to town on my Zoas. I also have an Open brain, Finger leather, Colt coral, Star Polyps, Echinophylia, Montipora Capricornis, and Montipora Digitata. He's left all these alone.

I want to add a frogspawn, and Acropora at some point. Hoping he'll just stick with the zoas.

Tell me about it. Have mine in with a Sohal. The Emp is definitely the boss. Although, the Sohal doesn't exactly kiss a$$ either.

Mine is an adult ~7in long. He's an awesome fish, when I'm working in the tank he'll swim around my hands and arms, brushing against me. He's not aggressive at all towards my other fish. He doesn't bother my euphyllias or LPS, but he did annihilate my zoas.

Does your grunt? I've read accounts of Emp Angels grunting. One guy said his wife thought someone was at the front door the grunting was so loud.

Mine hasn't grunted.

if he does, I've never heard it---I did have a trigger that did it all the time. He would spit at you when you walked past the tank, too. He was awesome.

They are great fish.

My old one used to grunt. Ate like a pig as well.
