Silicate removal???Long Post:)
HI there.
I seem to be having a nasty diatom outbreak I don't know how as the tank is 18 months old and the test results are as follows: Temp:79 Salinity:1.026 Calcium:400 Trate, trite and ammonia:0 Dkh:9 Ph:8.8(Yes i don't get this one. Yesterday is was 8.2) Mag:1400 So this has been about a month i guess i have been battling this. It is indeed brown and when you wipe it off it takes about 6 -24 hours to start to come back so it isn't dino's. I use ro/di that is only about a month old and the tds coming out is 4 I also run a phosphate reactor 24/7 and as i had a disease outbreak about 2 weeks ago i have a 55 watt uv running on the tank as we'll. I am thinking that i have a silicate problem?? Although wouldn't the phosphate reactor take care of that? It is now on the back walls and on only some of the rocks. Starting to show on the sand and taking over a millipora and tri coloutr tips all the other corals are fine. Suggestions for a good silicate remover or any other ideas how to battle this? Thanks Lisa |
