150 Gallon Predator Tank
I currently have a 150 gallon tank set up with a 60 gallon sump with 100 lbs of live sand and 150 lbs of live rock. this is just a quick run through of some fish i would like to keep in the tank, dont bash this list isnt permanent its just a thought. i also want to hear your thoughts and ideas of other fish possibilities.
LIST: Niger Trigger Hawaiian Black Trigger Queen Trigger Yellow Tang Achilles Tang Porcupine Puffer Volitan Lionfish Snowflake Eel Annularis Angel Queen Angel I realize that all the fish get really big most over a foot and ive done a lot fo research.. the tangs would be added at the same time and the triggers would all probably be added last relatively at the same time because of reef caution between each other. Please let me hear your ideas. Once again avoid the bashing its only a rough estimate nothing is set in stone. |

Most are good choices, however I would re-consider any of the tangs or angels IMO. In my experience with predators the queen trigger will most likly kill just about anything you may put in there with it sooner or later, Nigers are fairly peaceful in most cases which would put it at a dis-advantage with the queen or black, I have a niger in my community tank with blennies and gobys and shrimp..etc as long as he is feed well he doesn't bother anyone. So my suggestion would be the lion, the puffer, and the niger. I have owned Queens that have killed eels, lions, groupers you name it...

Wow that is a big list. Why not look into a Hawaiian fish biotope. Pink tail Trigger, yellow tang, a puffer/guniea fowl, snowflake moray, etc.

This is all my opinion...
Niger Trigger: fine Hawaiian Black Trigger: fine Queen Trigger: The queen got it's name for a reason. A LFS here got a queen back twice after resell. One time it had gutted a lionfish. I would remove it from your list. If you have the chance goto a local public aquarium that has one display watch how it acts, how the fish around it act, and the size it is. Yellow Tang: fine Achilles Tang: The Achilles tang is beautiful but a relevantly hard species to keep. They are not the hardiest of all tangs. If you are trying to cram the tank full it might not be a good choice. Porcupine Puffer: fine.. I love these guys Volitan Lionfish: good I guess but they bore me. ![]() Snowflake Eel: I rarely seen him and the target feeding gets old. Annularis Angel: fine fish but can't live his life in a 150 Queen Angel: Another fine Angel but can't live his life in a 150. In the end I would be wary of the Angels you have chosen. They get big! Overall I would reduce the amount of fish for sure. |

Watch out on the Queen Trigger. Definatley a fish that may kill its tank mates w/o notice.

Nice. I'm setting up a 125 predator, and usually change my fish list daily. Also, I don't really consider tangs and angels 'predators' (though my tank will have a yellow tang, transient from my other tank). Maybe Nori and Sponge preds lol. Some groupers, marine betta or panther would be cool as well.

Queens are evil; awesome if kept alone, but I'd venture to bet that by the time she was ~10in she would have killed/eviscerated every other fish in your tank. Plus they get ~2ft, waaaay too big for a 150. If you really like the angels, you could consider one of the "smaller" big angels. Regals are a pretty good choice, but they can be a bit touchy. Realistically, you could house any angel in that tank for quite awhile as long as you got a small one, they don't grow nearly as fast as more predatory fish like groupers, triggers, snappers, or lions. Speaking of, groupers are awesome!! They will swallow anything, including stuff as big as they are. They do grow very fast so check out some of the smaller species of grouper. The good thing about groupers is that they are relatively inactive fish, the downside is that they like to hide when they are small.
