Infared Light? Good or Bad?
Been toying with this idea for quite some time but the thread in New to Hobby got me going again.
I want to put a web cam on my system so that when I'm out of town...etc I can check in on the tank. Looks as though the guy did it in the other forum. Seems to work great.... as long as the lights are on... So... my thoughts go to Infrared Cameras. I just did a little searching on the net for them and they have become very affordable (under $100/cam). They allow you to see in pretty much total darkness. Does anybody know if the infrared light will adversely effect corals and/or fish? My thoughts are to go ahead and install a mini-surveillance system on my house with two cams being on the tank. One on the tank, and one on the sump. And probably two or three cameras throughout the house in certain places. I'm concerned with the infrared light on the corals though. Anybody know of any research or studies regarding this?

IR night cams don't work through water.
