Stocklist OK?

Hey everyone! I'll soon begin setting up a 265g Reef Tank. Just curious to hear what you guys have to say about this "rough draft" stock list.

Here ya go:

[2] Watanabei Angels - Genicanthus watanabei
[5] Dispar Anthias - Pseudanthias dispar
[1] Royal Gramma - Gramma loreto
[1] Lawnmower Blenny - Salarias fasciatus
[3] Banggai Cardinals - Pterapogon kauderni
[2] Ocellaris Clownfish - Amphiprion ocellaris
[1] Snowflake Eel - Echidna nebulosa
[2] Purple Firefish - Nemateleotris decora
[1] Blue Hippo Tang - Paracanthurus hepatus
[1] Blue Eye Tang - Ctenochaetus binotatus
[1] Purple Tang - Zebrasoma xanthururm
[1] Kole Tang - Ctenochaetus strigosus
[3] Yellow Tangs - Zebrasoma flaviscens

I've noticed that this is a large fish list. If you could help me wear it down so that my bio-load would stay fairly stable, that would be great. I appreciate your help.

Thanks

1) Two angles (of the same kind) may not get along in the same tank.
2) A snowflake "MAY" catch and eat the smaller fishes (cardinals, firefish, ect), besides too much of a bio-load.
3) The firefish may starve with all those faster feeders.
4) I have never been able to put a yellow and purple tang together. I have both but in different tanks, but I do know some people that have them together w/o problems.
5) Besides 7 tangs are a lot of tangs for a 265 gal.

1) The angels will be male/female. I'll be sure they get along before going in the tank.
2) You're probably right about the Snowflake. He's currently in my 75g and has a great personality. It'll be hard to let this one go.
3) Possibly. Might want to scratch those off the list, too.
4) Scratch that, also.
5) I know 7 is a lot. As for tangs, I'll narrow it down to 4. Blue Hippo, Purple, Powder Blue, and Naso.

Still, it is a rough draft. I have absolutely NO idea what will go in the tank.

Thank you for your opinion.

By the way, I think the tank will be 8' long. Still not sure of the full dimensions, though. Will find out later today.

I would say no to the angels, they get rather large. You might have a problem with the 3 yellow tangs with the purple unless you add them at the same time you might get away with it.

Change of plans, guys. I called to find out more info about the tank. The dimensions are 7'x2'x2.5'. I've decided to go with a 180 (6'x2'x2'). It'd would be much cheaper, and I thought it was stupid to pay a lot more money for 1 extra foot of length, and 6 extra inches of height. So, this completely changes the idea of my stocklist. I will figure up a new one and post it.

Just an update I thought you guys should know.

looks good to start off with, are you planning on having an eel or something with the neon gobies?

At first, I wanted a male/female pair of Watanabei Angels, I think everyone's been persuading me not to go with them, though.

As for eels. I would love to keep my Snowflake and transfer him to the tank, but there will be too many small fish/inverts in there for him to snack on. I want to set up a tank, just for him. But I'll probably just sell him to a good home, even though this will be hard.

Also, can anyone give me some information on the Spot Cheek Tang? Like maximum size, etc.?

I was thining about getting a lawnmower blenny until I read their description on liveaquaria.com http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...?pcatid=94&N=0. Apparently they are prone to nipping at SPS and clam mantles.

I went with a bicolor blenny instead and, although I couldn't find any reference to them nipping at SPS, my bicolor blenny likes to pick at my montipora capricornus all the time. He's never touched my acropora though.

I just thought I'd share my research findings with you. I don't think I read any description on any corals that you might be interested in keeping so this might not even apply to you...

For corals, I'll go with various SPS, LPS, Zoos, mushrooms, etc. A mixed reef is what I want, but with more SPS than anything, so I guess this scratches the Lawnmower Blenny off the list. I'll replace him with a Tail-Spot Blenny, always loved the look of them.

Fish:
[1] Blue Hippo Tang: This is just my opinion and a lot of people disagree with me, but I feel that these guys truly need a minimum 8ft tank that is at least 2ft wide or wider. I wouldn't get it
[1] Purple Tang: Will work, but they can be very aggressive
[1] Spot Cheek Tang - Found in the TOTM: I have no idea what this tang is. Maybe a Whitecheek Tang (Acanthurus nigricans)? In any case, because it is most likely from the Acathurus genus, it will need a fair amount of room and may not get along with similar looking fish.
[5] Dispar Anthias: Know that these can be difficult to care for.
[2] Ocellaris Clowns: Fine Choice
[1] Royal Gramma: Fine choice. Watch your ornamental invertebrates like shrimp.
[1] Lawnmower Blenny: Fine Choice. Look for bad behavior such as coral and clam nipping. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
[3] Neon Blue-Striped gobies: No point in getting more than one unless you want a mated pair
[1] One-Spot Foxface: Good choice. May tangle with Tangs. Warning, spines are mildly venomous
[2] Blue Cleaner Wrasse: Highly advise against this. They rarely eat prepared foods, they don't clean often in captivity, and even when eating prepared foods, they can mysteriously die for unknown reasons.

Inverts:
[3] Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp: I wouldn't go more than 2. And even then, one is plenty
[1] Blue Linckia Starfish: Advise against this. They will wither away and die in captivity.
[2] Sand-Sifting Starfish: Same with Linkia Starfish, and they also eat your sandbed fauna
[1] Blue Tuxedo Urchin: Cool choice, but are real bulldozers and like to pick up things that you would prefer they stay put. While they don't do much harm normally, they are a real pain when they decide to pickup that new $100 frag and move it behind the rocks in a place you can't reach
and Various hermits and snails: Can't go wrong with a cleanup crew. I suggest 80-90% snails as the cleanup crew. Even though I'm not a fan of hermits, they still play an important roll that snails have a hard time filling.

I have a blue tuxedo urchin in my 30 gallon tank and I have to say that I love this guy. He is a very mindless creature and he'll just plow throw whatever is in his way, stripping my live rock of even much of the coraline algae. A tuxedo urchin will definately be a good asset to your tank. However, it does have enough sense to stay away from directly crawling over the live portion of any of your corals.

I believe that I've read somewhere that the long-spine black sea urchins can grow to a size of a basketball if kept in your aqaurium long enough. I don't think that a tuxedo urchin will get much bigger than a tangerine.

To keep it from moving your frags, be sure to glue the frags to your live rock.

I dont see any problem with keeping 2 Watanabei Angels. They only reach 6" in length. I was going to get a pair but I dont have any room left in my 125g. Once the 240g gets up and running I will throw a pair in. Ive also tried 3 Cleaner shrimp and for some reason they always end up killing the 3rd one off. 2 of them will be fine. I think your list is fine. I personally wouldnt do the anthias though.

I personally didn't see any problem with the Angels either. Just most everybody advised against them. I'll try them and see what happens. I also decided against the Spot-Face Tang, also, because I read that they attain a max length of about 15". I would like to try some species of Anthias though. Never had them, but have talked to people who say that they are great additions to reef tanks.

Also, I'm open to suggestions for a replacement tang!

Thank you all for your opinions.
