Help identify hitchhiker anemone ? majano
This guy moved around the tank quite a bit for about a week and now has settled into a crevice between two rocks in the bottom right corner, about as far from the lights as possible. It hasn't moved from this spot in about five days. It measures about an inch in diameter.
Is this a majano ? If it is a solitary majano should I kill it, or just keep close tabs on it and the other LR and take action once there is evidence of it spreading. It isn't unattractive so I don't mind having a few of them in the tank if they don't cause an outbreak. If it is not a majano, any idea what it is ? Rock is a mix of freshly cured Fiji Pukani, Tonga Kaelini, and Marshall Islands. Luckily I have not seen any aiptasia yet in this new reef which is only ten days old. [Still no ammonia spike, mild diatom bloom now winding down and green algae starting to proliferate, nitrates 2.5-5ppm on Salifert test]. Thanks! ![]() |

In my opinion, I'd kill it just in case. Those things can spread fast.

I was hoping this was some type of BTA but it seems the location of the bubbles at the very tip of the tenticles is typical for majanos. Unless I am otherwise informed, I'll probably slaughter it in the next few days.
I have already seen what looked to be a few very tiny, baby anemonies on the glass... probably goes along with this being a very capable reproducer that will metastasize around the tank. |
