Sectioned for rock?

I have sectioned off part of my sump, so that all of my pumps are cannot get clogged. About two thirds of it is now open and I was thinking about filling it with liverock for extra filtration. Does anyone have any other ideas, or does that sound like a good idea, should I add a light?

Can you post a picture or diagram? I think a refugium is what you're moving towards.

it does sound like you have a good opportunity to go with a refugium there.
With regards to live rock in the sump---yes give the fish more swimming space in the main tank---and no you don't need a light.

Question what is that white mesh bag that your flow is running into. Is that just to catch large media coming fromthe tank?

in Canada is called a micron filter bag--in the states a filter sock
That replaces a trickle filter with bio balls--the live rock is in the bottom underneath.
Your right--a form of mechanical filtration---not really needed if you have a protein skimmer.

Yeah I was just thinking it would be nice to catch the larger material before it could reach the sump, with what looks like a filter bag that could help keep any nitrate material from getting cought in the sump.

it's the same as any other mechanical filtration - if you don't keep it clean it becomes the source of your nitrates. I've been cleaning mine once a week, but am now finding that by the end of the week it's clogged already...
