I hate this stinking fish!!!

Hello people!

I hate to say it, but one of my oldest fish is absolutely driving me nuts!!! I wish I knew a way to catch it and get it the hell out of my tank, but I don't know how that would be possible without tearing down my whole tank - not an option!!!

The damn thing grows like a weed and is quite huge now - at least 7 or 8 inches long. At least 3 times a week I come home to find all the corals on my sand bed buried. Most of them survive, but I have lost a few and the ones that survive don't exactly like the situation!

I don't have a picture of mine, but here is a picture I found on the net:

The thing hides under the rock work most times, only comes out to eat and even then just pokes his damn head out enough to get food.

UGH!!!

I bought it in a moment of absolute weakness about 6 months ago, a third of its size now.

If anyone can figure a way to get it out, he is free for the taking!

So.......what exactally is it? Sorry that I don't have any ideas on how to catch it. Looks mean, so maybe keep poking at him with your finger till he gets profanity removedand bites you, then grab him.

Worst case scenario, since you don't want to tear down the tank, maybe try to old fishing method with a barbless hook. I thought I read that somewhere a long time ago. If this is viewed as totally cruel, I am sorry, I haven't actually tried it.

Yep that's what it is. Try a bottle trap near it's home might work, mine love nori maybe use it to bait trap.

its an engineer goby..i had one for about 5 years, they are notorious sand movers. you may be able to lure it out if its cave with some food and scoop it up, but i fear you are stuck with it unless you break down that portion of your tank and snatch it out.

Use a turkey baster to blast water up into it's hiding spot until it comes out then net him.

Yeah it's definitely an engineer goby, good luck getting that out. I would get some sort of black (or just dark) bottle and placing it near his hole with some of his favorite food in it.....or you could just toss a hand grenade down in his hole.

Yup its an engineer goby, i bought mine about a year ago and the thing grew like 4 inches , i thought he was dead for a long time because i never see him unless i feed and he comes out , and is scared of everything, the fish suck, because you never see him.

yes the engineer goby/convict blenny (same fish, just different common name) are notorious sand movers for sure, I too have had a few corals get buried, but nonetheless, I do like them. They are completely reef safe, except for what they bury, are disease resistant, are not aggressive in the least bit, ... almost the perfect (hiding) fish. Kuz, - and anyone else for that matter - if you catch them, and want to get rid of them, I will surely pay the shipping and take them!!!
