lr ?

i have 44# of lr in a 24 gal nano to cycle the nano and also to cure the rock. i plan on moving about 1/2 of it to my bigger tank. i just need it to cure first. i am not detecting any ammonia, and it's been 2 weeks. the rock was sold uncured. i've started to add flakes to it to try to get a spike. is this the thing to do, or should i just give it time? 2 weeks seems like a long time for uncured lr no to have any die off. what do you think about this phenomenon?

Where did you buy the rock - what did it smell like? What did the rock look like (crap all over it - solid - porous)?

For instance...some vendors get rock covered with crap, get it shipped to the U.S. in boxes, which sit around in warehouses, and are drop-shipped to you. Some of this rock can be quite stinky, and you'll have no problem detecting ammonia.

Other vendors keep even their uncured rock in tanks with skimmers and whatnot. If you bought uncured rock from a place like this when they haven't gotten a shipment in awhile, your rock could be ... closer to cured than uncured.

What's the current temp in the tank you're curing it in?

If the temp is low, it's possible things are just going slowly. Crank 'er up to the low 80s.

It's possible that the bacteria in the rock is consuming the ammonia as it's produced. You may not see a spike. You testing for nitrites? Regardless - if it were me, I'd keep waiting.
