Drilling old tank? Large overflow box? Help!

Hi all,

I bought a Seabray (Dolphin range) tank cheap about 6 months ago and being my first SW tank i was anxious to get it set up. Its all set up now with fish, LR and few corals.

My problem is, now i want to put a sump in too. As the tank is probably ten years old and is already running is drilling out of the question? Would the glass crack? I am guessing so?

I bought an overflow box as an alternative but my bracing bars are a good 15cm and no one seems to make one with this width cap.... any ideas/advice at all?

Anyone custom make overflows that i can buy off?

Thanks for your help.

James.

You should lower the water level and drill 2 ea drains that go down into the sump. How big is your tank?? Overflow box will become your worst nightmare. Drilling is not bad - find out if your tank is tempered

tank is 120g cube.

Will the glass definately not crack then doing this? No risk?

How do i find out if the glass is tempered? I wouldn't have a clue who to ask and Seabray probably stopped making this a while ago!

Any tell tale signs?

Thanks, James.

I would get ahold of the maker and see if you can find out. There is another way but you will have to research it. Something like putting 2 lenses on either side <--- i dont know much about it. Once you find out it is not tmepered then find someone who is experienced with drilling glass and have them drill it. For a 120g I would suggest 2ea 1" drains
