ideal quarantine tank setup

Last one tonight, I swear. I am looking for your experience and opinions. I have been struggling with my QT since I was an idiot and didnt cycle it. I want to do it right this time so I'd like to know what you have had success with. I tried a 10gal to start, but think it was too small. I'd be housing a yellow tang as probably the largest fish.

Size?
Filter?
Heater size?
Protein Skimmer?
Sand, Gravel, or Bare bottom?
Clay pot for hiding?
Live rock?
Lights?
What other equipment or thoughts?
What to avoid, what to consider?

the only things you need are a tank, heater, and filter something like a whisper HOB filter will work just fine. and some PVC fitting for the fish to hide in.

also for lights just a standard florescent will work unless housing corals

This question often starts a debate. Many feel a need to pre treat in quarantine under the assumption that all new fish have ich and /or other infestations,others lean toward providing a nice environment without treatment and observing and many are somewhere in the middle.
Personaly, I use a 29gallon with over the side filter ,carbon and poly pad. I add pre seeded live rock rubble from my sump and fill it with system water. I make sure there are hiding and resting places. If a particular specimen needs sand I put a bowl in. I quarantine and observe closely for 4 weeks. needless to say I only quarantine a small number of fish at one time. If symptoms occur I either remove the fish to a hospital tank with sponge filter and pvc for treatment or remove the rock carbon and poly pad and treat in the 29g. If it's ich the rock will have to be kept out of the system and fishless for at least 2months.
No new fish gets into the system without 4 weeks of observation symptom free.

Seriously, cycle very thoroughly using bacteria seed and a source of ammonia, to several ppm two or three times a week or 10 days apart.
