My own reef log!!!!! 10g reef.

Hey guys! The day has finally come. I have my own reeflog! I have a few pics of the setup.
Specs:

equip:
10g AGA
50 watt heater
penguin 350 power filter
mini jet 404 and 606
7 lbs of LR
15 lbvs of LS
Tropic Marin salt

Details:
Ammonia-.25 ppm
Nitrites-0ppm
Nitrates-0ppm
Ph-8.3

Fish/inverts corals:
(Nothign in yet)
Plans:
2 Ocellaris Clowns
a variety of snails/hermits
a few mushrooms
a few zoas
and some LPS

At this point my plans are to wait for the cycle to start, then ill get my cleanup crew, and QT the clowns. I also need info on how to get the cycle in the QT going. I am using an old freshwater powerfilter, and i dropped in a few copeods to see if i can get some bacteria growing, however, need some advice. Also, I was wondering since my rock if fully cured, what I shoudl do to start my cycle. Should I drop a cocktail shrimp in or should I just wait? Thansk for looking! I will be updating with pics and stuff so please tag along! Thanks guys.

I would get that towel out from under it next water change. It will be a soggy, moldy mess in about 2 months. It will also smell terrible. You can put cocktail shrimp in, but more than likely even though you rock us "cured" it will have a little die off and produce some waste. There should be some bacteria on it to get your cycle going.

I would take out those biowheels from your filter, they will be nitrate factories and your liverock serves as you biofilter so you don't really need them anyway.

you could jumpstart the cycle by putting in some marine pellets. That way you aren't putting any critters in danger from the cycle.

hey everyone. came home from school this afternoon to find a lot of new "things" on my rock!
First, i foudn abotu a dozen smalll feather dusters. I found a few spots of some green algae on the rocks, abd found two of what i think to be glass anenome (?). I will post a few pics tonight. The display tanks still has no reading of ammonia, nitrates, or nitrites, but my QT, which was setup at the same time as my display, has about 1 ppm of ammonia...thanks!

yepp, i did. Also, guys, when do you think it'd be okay to put in a few hermit crabs. I have so algea growing on the ricks, and i want to jump on it now before it gets to late. Do i need to wait for the cycle to end before i put in the hermits/snails...or what?

Hey guys, today, day 7 of the tank, i went out and bought 2 astrea sanils, 2 margarita snals, and 4 scarlet hermits. All seem to be doing great and they add a little "life" to the tank. I also bought a sargeant major damsel which i will later on give back to my aunt who lent me him/her to "start" the tank.
However, the best purchase of the day were my 2 new ocellaris clowns! They are doign wonderful in the QT tank, and swimming aroudn and eating liek machines! Here are a few pics of the new scaping and the QT:

They look pretty healthy, but just know, they are almost certainly tank-raised clowns and that I hope you are feeding mysis shrimp, because as a natural color enhancer, it will really make their colors pop. as will the light fixture you have over your 10g.

BTW: how long do you plan on having them in QT?

yea i love the fixture. at this point, im feedign them copoeds, with seaclon, and formual one marine pellets. Thast just what my LFS reccommeded. If you think i shoudl go with mysis shrimp ill order some tonight. and i plan on having them in the QT for about a week, maybe two. Sound good?

Hey everyone, everythings great today. tests look right on track, and im deffinetly excited for some corals. I think im going to go with a few mushrooms, a few zoos, and a frogspawn at first, and see how that does. Please comment! thanks.

How are you liking the lighting? I've got a similar light (2x40w) over my 10g and it seems to be pretty decent, yet not heat the tank up over 80 degrees.

I like the look of yours better though, as it is a bit lower profile than my mine.

hey guys. my tank is doign greta and i have a few coral questions. I am goign to order my corals off live aquaria this weekend, probally sunday. I want to get either a frogspawn or a torch, and a nano soft coral pack (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...catid=2033&N=0)

Do you think this woudl be good for my first few corals?
