Question UV sterilizer - yeah or niegh

What is everyone’s experience with these? Do they work against algae blooms and diatoms?

Less than 100 bux for the size of your tank. Try it for yourself. Dont run it all the time, only when you see what you mentioned. You will see the results more dramatically rather than it being on all the time.

My opinion is that they are not worth the money. I've had problems with all the usual types of algae and still had it when I was running a UV. I found that if you work really hard to keeping all your parameters in check and proper lighting, that is the trick to avoiding problem algae. I threw mine away a few years ago and I don't have any problems with algae. Just watch your parameters!

I run one when algae is a problem and when I introduce new fish to the tank. So far so good.

No, that flow diagram is actually correct; it's an upward flow that results in better killing of stuff...

I run one all the time and my water is always crystal clear

UV lights produce low levels of ozone, so that probably explains the good water clarity.
