waiting...?
Hi everyone,
My new tank has been cycling for about four weeks now. I had an early amonia spike, and now the nitrates and phosphates are beginning to fall, but as of yet, no algae. I keep expecting an algae bloom, but I can't seem to get the stuff to grow. My water is from an RO/DI unit. My skimmer is pulling out yucky stuff daily. (not nearly as dark now as at first) My live rock was uncured. (about 150 lbs) Am I paranoid or should I be thankful for no algae outbreak? I have been cycling with a bare minimum of light daily.

do you have anything alive in the tank? and the bare minimum of light will help with no algae.

You should consider adding some inverts like a cleaner shrimp or some nassarius snails. You could also add some fish - how big is your tank?

I personally find inverts very tempremental to poor water quality. If your tank has only just cycled I would add a hardy fish to begin with and add inverts later.

Oh, the algae will come. . .mine didn't appear until about a month and a half in. I think at this point, you can go ahead and add a clean up crew if you haven't already. If they're fine, and your water parameters still look good, try a fish in a couple weeks.
