HOB Overflow and Return Pump Recommendations
Hi all,
I am looking for some recommendations, tales from the trenches, horror stories regarding Hang on the back Overflows. I have an AGA 92 Corner that was made with Tempered Glass and didn't come with the overflow kit; so drilling doesn't seem to be an option. Also, if anyone has any recommendations on what size/model of return pump I should use, I would greatly appreciate those as well. Thanks, Chris

The Cadillac: http://www.lifereef.com/siphon.html
The Chevy: http://www.aquacorals.com/ShopOverflows.htm I'm using the chevy (Amiracle) on a 75G, with a ViaAqua 3600 return pump, choked back just a bit. I did something like this: http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson...struction.html on the drain in the overflow to quite it down. I cut the pumps at least once a week for feeding/water changes, etc., and I've never lost syphon. I did get a bubble in the u-tube that restricted flow a bit, but I was able to drag that out with an air line.

I used a generic u-tube overflow on my old 40br. It worked just fine, and maintained the siphon on its own. What you want to avoid is the cpr style overflow that requires a pump to maintain the siphon. You'll find plenty of horror stories about those. The lifereef overflows also have a great reputation if you can't find the generic one. Never had a problem with mine. Only changed when I upgraded to a 120RR.

If I were you, I would spend the money on the lifereef one. I have one on my 75, being running for over 4 years now. It has lost its siphon only when I removed the U tube.
I have a cheap U tube box on my 29, wish I would have spent the money on another lifereef one. I had to modify the U tube itself on the cheap one -- it was too short and kept losing siphon.
