There's no such thing as "k volume" (AFAIK).

What is it you really want to know (in english)?

I´m talking about kelvins.
I´ve got a 400 w 10000 kelvin bulp.
1 14000 kelvin 25 w (T5)
and 3 25000 kelvin 25w (T5)

the t5´s wont count as much as the 400w be cause combined they are only 100w. i hope this helps you help me.
I´m icelandic so english is not my first language...sorry

I'm sure somebody else can give a more technically correct answer than me, but...the k rating of a bulb is just describing (in general terms) the bulb's color temperature. This in itself doesn't really mean anything because it is usually a marketing number and not based on fact (Example: Iwasaki 50k bulbs). Yes, generally 20k bulbs will be bluer than 14k, etc. But you can't make any sort of calculations from them that really mean anything. I think the only way to calculate the actual and combined k value of those bulbs is to use some measuring equipment to do so.

Ok thanks alot, i was not looking for an exect number though, just a rough idea. My t5´s are from arcadia and my mH is a coralvue reeflux, i don´t supose that helps in calculating a rough number? what would be you guess?

so you are trying to figure out what the overall K your tank is getting?

that's not a number you can figure. the K ratings you listed are purely in name only, they don't relate to any real world measurement. you'd have to have the measured spectrum from each bulb. and then even if you did, differences in reflectors and distances that affect how much of the light makes it into the tank and how it blends would still make it impossible. if you *really* want to know, you'd have to measure it. and measure it for many spots in the tank and average.

why does it matter though?

If you're more worried about growth...then you should really be asking about PAR.

Well...

((400 x 10000) + (25 x 14000) + (3 x 25 x 25000) )/ 500 (total watts) = 12450 k avg

This perhaps might give you an estimate of what color to expect...
