Starburst Polyps Over Running
How does one stop the spread of Starburst Polyps? they are growing over everything. i have some xania and zoos next to it, and the Starburst Polyps are growing on top of the polyps!!!! will the Starburst Polyps kill the other polyps, or will it be ok? Thanks!!!

no advise on how to stop the spread other than to remove them. I wish I had your problem! Something ate mine.

Star polyps are the Devil! I wish I had never introduced them to my tank, unfortunately I new I would regret it due to the research I did....was I ever right! They were no problem for 6 months or so and then BAM...population explosion...they grew faster than I could eliminate them and stung/killed some of my prized pieces....I will never again allow a Star Polyp in any of my tanks...
BTW, I too have tried to eradicate them, mostly through scrubbing, harassment, etc. The only effective treatment I have found is long term exposure to air. Though I do believe short term concentration of intense light could also work. Chris |

Hognose--what do you do when they grow up between the zoos on the same rock/frag?

If you can take the rock/s out and spread some kalk paste on them, that'll usually nuke em'.

oops posted before I was ready------I've been using tweezers on them when they pop up on the other coral--but it doesn't irradicate them.

Unless you can isolate them on something totally or to make it easier to frag them back, it is a battle you are going to lose or just a constant headache.

is there anything that i could use to control kill some of it off. like another coral that stings maybe? because there are other polyps on the rock that i want to save.

They don't sting just smother.
If you can just pull out the rock and cut them back to give the others some breathing room. I've tried to isolate my Anthellia and star polyps so that they cannot spread on to a rock that I cannot easily remove to trim them back. I love the way my Anthellia and Stars looks so I haven't given up yet. But they both are weeds and are a real pain if you place them somewhere that you can't manage them. |

GSP are peaceful, so they don't sting anything. In spreading over everything, they sufforcate corals. Give that GSP rock away to a newbie reefer, they would love to have a nice covered piece to start with.

I have a rock covered in them that I can't remove. I put a torch coral on top of the gsp and the gsp doesn't come out where they touch. So far it hasn't killed the gsp - but I'm hoping it eventually will.

If you don't want your gsp s to spread isolate them on the sand bet so they don't touch any other rockwork. Make sure there not touching the glass as they will spread to the glass as well.

I have to say that I think a GSP dominated tank would look awesome. Like a field of grass. So, if anyone is throwing some away I would gladly take it. No joke, just pm me please.
