Simple Silly Sump Question
Sorry about the title.
I want to add a refugium to my sump but I would like it to be a separate tank. I think I will just tee off my overflow return and allow some of the display water to run down into the refugium and then gravity drain into the main sump...maybe just after the skimmer section? Or into the skimmer section? What do I need to think about or watch out for when doing this? It just seems too simple, theres got to be things Im not thinking of. Actually I guess I do have to think about the fact that during a power outtage, the refugium will also drain into the sump until the bulkhead runs dry. I guess I need to keep the bulkhead somewhat higher up then. What else? |

Not much to it, make sure one is higher than the other, and the bulkhead is the same size as the one feeding the fuge.
A bulkhead strainer near the top will fix the over flow issue. (I just made one pvc//elbows/cap/saw)
