Hydor Kor 1..Flow at 40gph instead of 400gph?
Just purchased the Hydor Kor 1's and both are not even close to what they should be pushing. What am I doing wrong? Ideas?

how did you measure this? It's not going to feel like a standard impeller type powerhead. The flow is more gentile and widespread giving the illusion of less flow when you feel it.

I didnt measure it--I was being dramatic sorry. Yeah I understand the spread thing, but I put my hand in the tank like three or four inches away from the powerhead and I feel nothing. I was just wondering if this is normal.

Why do I do this?

I would think you should feel something. I'm not sure on the koralia 1s but I added two 3s to my 120 and couldn't beleive the flow on these things....actually knocked some corals over!

Yeah I would think so, but they are both acting the same pretty lifeless. I have corals that are inches away from them about 3-5 inches and they are barely being moved. My tunze nano's would just blast, not sure what I am doing wrong. I tried re plugging them, new outlets, different powerstrips, took them apart and put them back together. Nothing. 400gph should be a little heavier than this I would think even if they do throw wider spread.

possible the propeller is on backwards? Then it would suck in rather than blow forward.

I have Hydor4, and MaxiJet 1200 in my tank. 1200gph vs 294gph. The maxijet has a more powerful direct flow. The H4 pushes water in a V shape and feels weaker, but moves more water.

I have two K-4's and have to aim them toward the surface as they blow my sand all over the place. My buddy has two K-1's in his 55 and they provide a decent amount of flow, but nowhere near what mine put out.

Well I guess i am stuck. Maybe this is what they feel like. Thanks for all the info everyone. I looked at the props and they seems fine as far as backwards goes. I guess since they are both doing the same exact thing this is what they are supposed to do. Mixed with my maxi 1200 there is a lot of water movement, I just expected there to be lots of water movement. Thanks again.

If you just got them, clean them up, send them back and get some bigger ones. It would be worth it. Isn't that what return policy is for?

yes that is what they feel like, the flow is very wide and dissipates a few inches from the outlet.i had a K2 in my 15g cube and got rid of it and went with an ECOMOD kit for the MJ's.it just didnt flow enough for me.

Put ti this way, I have my K-4's aimed towards the front of the tank and if they are pointed the least bit down you'll see the bottom of my tank from them blowing the sand. My surface is rippled with agitation. Get some bigger ones and you'll be happy.

LOL. That's what the 1's do. They push 400gph. It's not much at all when you are dealing with their flow pattern.
Of course the modded maxi jets push more, they are rated for more. If you want more flow, upsize your korillas. They have a nice 2 year warranty. The MJs have a nice taillight warranty after you mod them... That means once the LFS can't see your taillights anymore, the warranty is over before they hit your tank

Gotta love Hydor's Markaneering. Don't have real flow? Just put something on the box that says you do!
I too had a Koralia #1 for a little while. I don't care how you measure the flow, that thing didn't do anywhere CLOSE to 400 GPH. But it says it does on the box...so it has to...right? |

One of my Koralia #1's didn't work correctly out of the box. I noticed that the prop spun slower than the other and that it gave off a bit of a hum (the other didn't). I took the impellor out and cleaned it then reassembled and it was fine. It's worth a shot, but I agree that it's pretty low flow.

I just picked up 2 # 3's they are definitely moving 850gph and super quiet...they are aimed down and water is still churning hard on the surface...had to move some LPS out of the way since they looked palm trees in a hurricane! Definitely go Bigger!

Did they come with the snap-on plastic ring and guard?
If so, try installing them. They are supposed to make the flow pattern more direct. |
