Green cyano?
I think I have what is cyanobacteria, it's green. This is also a color of it correct?
It hasn't covered my tank, only on some of my newly cured rubble rock (only 2-3 months old) where as my larger pieces of live rock that are 3+ years old, are completely uneffected. I run my MH about 9 hours a day, I have chaeto in my fuge with an 8w fluorecsent light that doesn't seem to grow, and actually seems to be dying. All the filters in my ro/di are brand new, so I'm sure they're running at peak efficency. If I have chaeto in my sump, and it's not growing, but the cyano in my sump is, what could be the problem? Perhaps I don't have enough watts for the chaeto to grow? Everything in my tank is doing great (corals), but this cyano is growing slowly but surely. I did a water change last week, but obviously didn't help too much. I will try and do another tomorrow, but I'm still wondering why my chaeto isn't pulling out the bad stuff that my cyano is feeding on? I only feed my tank a few little pellets each day, and have enough bristle worms, pods and a few nausaruis & blood shrimp to eat it up so there shouldn't be much waste to produce any po4.

Sounds like some guessing. Do you know your water readings ?
Also could just be that there isnt enough of a cleanup crew. |

I have tons & tons of pods & bristle worms, so I couldn't imagine anything at all going to waste for this to occur.
I'm going to check my parms in the morning, but I'm going to bet they are all right on point, other than possible po4, but what could be causing it, and why isn't my chaeto pulling it out if there is any? I suppose I could use more flow in my display, but regardless of flow, there is obviously a problem that is making it grow.

Pods and worms are not enough. You needs crabs , snails , omnivore type fish. Algea is always there and if left unchecked will case major problems.
I bought a lightbulb the looped one thats like 20 whatts but burns at 75 and is labaled same as sun or something like that. With a metal shroud with clip both from lowes. I leave light on 24/7 and it grows like crazy. |

I had some in my fuge ( forest green in color), I'm used to see it in it red/marron color. I just scraped it off and it has not come back (yet).

I get this in my carnivore tank. I feel that it's an algae that grows in all tanks, but only shows up in mine because I don't have enough animals to keep it's population down.
