Looking for advice

Okay I finally got my hot little hands on some interceptor!~ Most vets wouldnt touch this stuff with a 10ft pole. On my 6th attempt I scored. 6 tabs for $45. I can treat like 2500 gallons!

I have 2 tanks to treat. I will do one at a time so I can transfer inverts while the tank is being treated.

Questions!
1. The correct dosage is 0.025g / gallon. How do you measure this without a small scale?? Is there a known measurement in the reefing world? How about the little measuring cup that comes with Chemiclean?

2. Are Clams safe with interceptor treatment?

3. Is 3 treatments necessary? Has anyone successfully killed red bugs with one treatment? I just hate to over do it. I can always repeat Treatment if needed.

4. Is overdosing a concern?

I just read that AEFW can become a problem after treating with intercepter. Whats the deal with this?

What kills AEFW? I LOVE THIS HOBBY

Overdosing is not much of a concern. Clams will be fine. I have done strong overdoses and left it in for up to a week with no ill effects.

85 gallons and 75 gallons.

I assume that is total system volume?

75+85=160

One pill treats 380 gallons, so half a pill treats 190g. Thats close enough to 160. So basically you use 1/4 a pill on each tank. Either A) cut a pill in half with a razorblade, then cut that half in half, then crush it up in a ziploc bag with a blunt object, or B) cut a pill in half, crush it, then divide up the powder into two equal halves.

Any other suggestions? How long do you leave your interceptor in the tank before doing a water change?

Looks like this is a private conversation lol.

Leave it in at least 6 hours. 12 is becoming standard, I have done anywhere from 24 hours to a week, and those were even overdose situations (on purpose).

Dont worry, its really hard to mess up with this stuff.

The longer the duration of treatment the better IMO.

I severly overdosed and left it in for a week, no more bugz.

12 hours is sufficient. Run fresh carbon actively in a canister filter or Phosban Reactor. Repeat again in 7 days, and then again in 14 days.

All shrimp and crabs should be removed from the tank during treatment because they won't survive the meds. After your tank is red-bug free and the water is cleaned up (carbon and water changes), your inverts can be placed back in their homes.

The thing is, if there are any survivors, they'll be back. And that doesn't take into consideration any that are eggs that haven't hatched yet. 3 weeks of treatment tends to summarily wipe them all out.

Interesting. Where did you read this?

Its interesting because I came down with a case of AEFW weeks after dosing for redbugs

I used a single tablet to dose 330g of water. I've been told it will treat 380g to 400g of water per tablet.

Okay, just got home and inspected the damages from a 12 hour interceptor trial!
Heres what I found:
1 dead cleaner shrip being eaten by my open brain...Thats it.
There was one large turbo snail that was left behind when I cleaned out the inverts, it was acting norman and eating. Does interceptor usually kill snails?
The tank looks good and I dont think I suffered any ill effects.

Becuase I did this as a preventive measure I think I will stop the treatment here. I have the interceptor if I ever need it again.

Next I will treat the frag tank where all the trading goes on, this is where the problem coral is located.

Maybe the population of some other predator of the FWs is diminished by the treatment?

redspot - I have done out of tank dips and it knocks the RBs back but they return each time. I am preparing a large volume of SW to do an in system treatment so I am hoping you are successful, Good luck!
