Help me decide on a skimmer
I'm going to be upgrading the skimmer on my 28g JBJ HQI and wanted some opinions on skimmers. The tank is in the family room so noise is a concern. I have a remora nano on my 12 g in my office and it is by far one of the loudest skimmers I've ever heard!
I don't have a sump and don't plan on adding one, therefore it would have to be a HOB skimmer. I have some choices in mind but I'm open to suggestions. The tank will eventually be a mixed sps, clam and ricordia tank hopefully hevily stocked. I like to feed the fish and the tank often hence the need for a better skimmer. Here are some choices CPR bak pak Typhoon turboflotor (this might be too big for the tank) Octopus HOB Prism Deluxe Deltec MCE300 Your input is appreciated |

If its a 28 gallon tank I would just do a 5 gallon water change every week and not worry about a skimmer. The small HOB skimmers seem to be inefficient for the cost and can also be noisy or overflow, flooding the house.

I would look into the bermuda rouge wave. It can skim better than any other hang on I have used.

Thanks for all the input. After reading thread after thread ended up ordering the deltec. I think it would fit the best without any problems on the back sump/refugium area.

if you have a sump h&S a110 would work great. re-circulating one. best skimmer on my 50. plus you can up grade to a little larger tank without any problem. also probably cheaper or same price as a deltech and works the same.

sorry to hijack your thread Reefturkey but I figured that it would be best to post in a already existing thread since i am in the market too
I have been looking at the Red Sea Berlin HOB as well as the others in the list. i want to spend close to 200 - 250 on the skimmer but it has to be a HOB style to fit in the cabnet with the sump/refugium. Any issues with the Red Sea? |

I have a 60 gal pred tank w. a volitan, dogface puffer, clown and 2 damsels. I have a Prizm delux but am not overly pleased-bubbles and noisy. I have had it for a while and it does do the job but am considering an upgrade. I do need a hang on....That Pet Place is having a sale and I can get a Berlin hang on -23"-w. pump for $ 160.00. Any opinions?? When I was in sales in this industry, I used to be of the opinion that Berlin's were overpriced for their performance. If not the Berlin, any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Craig. |
