i did a search but couldnt find any info.

whats the difference in the mtal halides used for reefs and the metal halides used to grow plants?

looking at pictures, the only difference i see is the way the bulbs look.

Grow lights can be used for our purposes you just have to find a bulb that is compatible with the ballast and is 6500k or above. They are much cheaper simply because almost everything for this hobby has a reef company's sticker put on it and an extra zero put on the end of the price.

Keep in mind though that a 6500K halide bulb will give the tank a yellow tint. If you want a cheap bulb that is white or blue white or even bluer, there are ebay sellers that sell cheap, higher color temperature bulbs. I'm cant recommend them or not recommend them because I dont use them. But some members here do and it is a cheap place to get a white or blue halide bulb.
