live rock conditioning
I want to put some formerly live rock from another tank into my tank. It has been sitting around in several buckets and is now dry. It had some hair algea and apitasia on it but I am assuming it is all dead now. I want to add this to my 180. I have heard of people scrubbing with a brush and boiling the rock. Any suggs would be helpful.
Thanks, B |

WHAT? Don't boil the rock. Why would you do that? You need to cure it though and you need to do it outside of your display. If you put dry rock with lot's of dead organic matter in your main tank, it will cycle.

Cure the live rock in a seperate container to avoid any potential cycle.
The dead material will cause you grief in a display tankl. GL |

so I have differing opinons here. I was thinking of putting it in a 29 gallon aquarium and filling it with water and maybe scrubbing the organic off. I don't have an extra skimmer to cycle another tank...hmmmm

If its already dry, boiling it for a minute or so would probably make sure the Aiptasia is dead and the Hair Algae is gone for the time being. You could then cure it in a tub with a heater and a circulation pump in saltwater
