biotypes

I see alot of people metion offhanded that they are doing a "reef flat biotype" or "carribean biotype" or "gulf biotype" etc, yet I haven't seen the word 'biotype' in any of the articles or books I've read.

Is there a good place that describes various biotypes and what species of fish/corals are compatible with them?

Are you sure you don't mean "biotope". Mainly it refers to choosing a specific geographical or physical reef location and modeling your aquascape and stock lists to emulate that location.

Hmm yes I own that book and have been reading it every night. It has taught me alot about how corals function and work.

I see that for each coral it does tell you where its found, but it does not have a list of corals found listed by location. not very helping if i was to try and construct a 'biotope/type' (actually you're the first person who I've seen use the word biotope). Guess I was hoping to see like a "carribean corals" list or something, instead they're only organized by coral type. essentially I'd have to read through every coral in that book and make my own list of the ones that match the location I am trying to recreate. Surely there is a list/book that already organizes coral in this fasion?

Well I browsed through some of my coral books again last night looking for a better section to help me plan and decide on a biotope, and none of them were all that helpful

So I purchased the following books from amazon:

1 "Reef Secrets: Starting Right, Selecting Fishes & Invertebrates, Advanced Biotope Techniques"

1 "Natural Reef Aquariums: Simplified Approaches to Creating Living Saltwater Microcosms"
John H. Tullock; Paperback; $23.07

1 "The New Marine Aquarium: Step-By-Step Setup & Stocking Guide"
Michael S. Paletta; Paperback; $13.57

I guess I know what I'll be doing for the next several weeks

At least I don't have my tank yet... it will prevent me from buying more stuff before planning it out
