How long should I treat corals with interceptor in a QT tank
So with the frag swap coming REAL soon, I thought I should ask what time period I should QT with interceptor... Can I QT them in just a 5 gal tank?

The interceptor treatment should last 6 hours, and yes you can do the treatment is a 5 gallon tank. Just be sure to add a heater to keep the temps stable and a powerhead for water movement. Another suggestion is to add flatworm exit to the last hour of the interceptor treatment (add at hour 5).

Thanks... Now all I need is a small pill of interceptor. Would anyone be willing to sell me a pill (Wow that sounds funny - I don't want you guys to feel like pushers or anything). I have someone looking into it at local vet clinics but I haven't heard anything back yet. But in case he doesn't find anything, if anyone could lend me enough do one treatment, that would be great.
Also, I have been told that this should be okay for all corals as well (SPS, LPS etc). I hope this is right

Okay.. Here's my setup then.. let me know if this sounds safe... After the swap, I'll come home and acclimate corals to my tank water which will be in the QT tank. I'll put the corals into the QT tank(s) depending how much space is there, and put in the interceptor. Now, is it possible to leave the treatment there for 24 hours? or do you guys mean 6 hours, another treatment, and repeat x3?
The thing is, I'm going out of town overnight and returning on Sunday. Should I just wait until Sunday to treat? And FINALLY, I just have this small dual 14 watt t5 lamp... will that be okay during the qt process? As you can tell, this is my first time QT'ing things other than zoos (which I never used interceptor for - btw, how much interceptor for a 5 gallon tank?????? Yikes) Thanks to everyone who's helping me out!

QT = Quarantine. A 6 hour treatment in Interceptor one time is not considered QT, that's just a treatment tank is all.
The corals should only be in interceptor for 6 hours and the water should be changed back to plain saltwater from the tank. If you are going to do a true QT, they should stay in that tank for 3 treatments once a week. Yes, the light you listed will work, but you need to have a heater and some sort of filtration in there as well. I use a cheap Whisper Filter from Walmart and change the pads out when I do a water change after the next treatment. Also, be careful of evaporation on such a small tank. I also do mini water changes through the week to keep the parameters in check. (PH, CA, Alk, Mag)

Thanks Sara, and how long are the corals in there? Is it just one week or many weeks? I'm guessing a good schedule would be to treat every other day then about for a week...

Not to hijack, but I was looking for the dosage for interceptor treatments and frankly I'm too lazy to keep looking so while we're on the topic I figured I'd pick everyone's brain. How much do I need to dose a 180 with? I have the large dogs size tablets.
Also, they are beef flavored, which I don't think will be a problem because it is just natural flavoring but I was told by the manufacturer that they all come flavored now. Is this true? Does everyone else use flavored tabs to dose their tank? |
