Ideas for a blue wrasse?
Hey all,
I'm looking for one more fish to cap off the fish list. I would like some kind of reef safe wrasse under $150. I have a lot of anthias which give me a lot of red/orange, which is unfortunately the dominant color of most of the wrasses. I have a majestic angel, which gives me some blue, but a blue/green/teal fish would kind of complete the spectrum. Any ideas?

You could try for a New Guinea Wrasse (Anampses neoguinaicus). I havn't see a decent photograph of what the adults look like, but mine is still it's juvenile colouration.
They are in the Tamarin Wrasse family, so you need to find a good store that will order one for you that you can trust. I've found that they aren't particularily hard to keep, but they aren't good shippers at all. Damage to the mouth from shipping is what usually claims them. Mine just started to eat flake food, although before it would only eat pods, live brine, and frozen mysis. Here's a photo of mine (sorry not the best as he's pretty quick and my camera's shutter just isn't fast enough)

Pmolan, is that a cleaner wrasse? Don't they have a pretty dismal rate in captivity?
Joker, the shipping problems worry me with them. There is a lower end LFS here, the next closest one is 2 hrs away. I order almost everything online. TWallace, they are a possibility but I will have to find a WYSIWYG one with nice color. It seems the color is highly variable between individuals. I found some great pictures, but more so-so ones. I know the males of many wrasses (particularly the fairies) are more colorful. Is it true that they will have more brilliant color if kept with a female? I'm just not sure I have the room in my tank for a pair...

Chirilabrus solarensis (clown fairy wrasse) has plenty of blue.

I think the Divers Den have an Austrailian Scotts Wrasse. The clown fairy wrasse will be a great choice, alos have you thought about an Atlantic Blue tang.

If you are looking to add blue/teal to your tank, I'd go with alleni damsels.
http://www.petsolutions.com/Alleni-D...0L+C16219.aspx Those, as well as Talbot's, are very peaceful are great schooling fish. Would be a nice contrast to your anthias IMO. As far as wrasses, def. don't go with the cleaner wrasse (the first pic)... not sure there are very many blue wrasses... Melanurus, and Scott's fairy are somewhat "off blue"... You're tank might be too small, but the some of the best blues are the hippo tang and powder blue tang...

Definantly not looking for another tang.
Its funny the mentions of a solarensis wrasse. I actually had one for a while and lost him in the tank move over the summer. I was thinking of getting something different, but it might come back to another one of those. I would love more info on the alleni damsels (doing a search now). I was considering a group of blue/green chromis, but I hear they sometimes pick each other off, and am not sure I have room for a group.

I've had Allen's damselfish. Very nice and peacefull They graze a bit too.(Pomacentrus alleni). The blue green chromis do beat each other up. I have had 3 blue chromis from Belieze (Chromis cyanea) and all three have done weel in my 120 g for over a year now. These chromis are commonly referred to as blue chromis or Carribean chromis. They are a dark irredescent blue.
