how to silicone acrylic?

ok i know silicone doesnt work well with acrylic but its in my sump... (i live in cali dont wanna pay 25 bux for weldon) i know to get GE 1 door and window.... how do you silicone acrylic? just some fat beads of it on each side or what?

yep...you got it......just build little walls an each side of it as well as to fill any gap in between the wall and your baffle

ok i just wanted a second on this i tried it one time with cheap silicone from petsmart and it was to hard to squeeze it out... this time around ill get a caulking gun

I used big beads on each side of the acrylic in my 90g sump. It's a 17"x20" peice of acrylic and I have had water filled up on one side and no water on the other and it has held like a champ.

I needed to scuff the acrylic with sand paper on the edges where the silicone goes in the past. Otherwise the silicone just peels off.

I agree with Pmolan, silicone appears to stick well to acrylic but you can peel it right off if you pull on it. Either rough up the mating surface or better yet go with Weld-on 16. It's only a few bucks at plastic suppliers.

And if your tank bows after filling like most do the silicone will most likely fail (trust me, I'm pulling mine back out right now )
Do yourself a favor and do it right first time.
