Water Evaporation

The water in my tank is getting low and I am not ready for a water change yet. What do I do?

If your water is getting low due to evaporation - you need to top it off with fresh RO water. This is important - if you do not top off with fresh water(not saltwater) your salinity levels increase - and stability is important in a closed system.

Make sure your water is room temp or the same temp as your tank before adding it.

I have a 90 gallon and have not yet set up the auto-topoff. In the morning I add about a third of a gallon of water. In the evening - same thing.

what is the RO water? Is it reverse osmois? What if you do not have the RO water? What if I bought a gallon of distilled water from walmart?

If you buy the walmart water do the drinking water I used to use that for top off and water change. I tested it and it was 0 accross the board.

I am not sure what you mean by running low--if you have a 90 I would gradually add it back--10 percent at a time(for one point to match the temp)
Its a good habit to do daily or every other day top ups. As the water evaporates the salt stays behind and this increases the salinity in your tank.

yeah you totally have to keep replenishing water. mine like goes down an inch after a couple days! i had this idea to hook up one of those IV drip thingies like when yer in the hospital so that i wouldn't have to deal with added water like all the time! i'll let everyone know if that works or not...

I am going to head to walmart and get water today. Is there something I need to look for when choosing the one to use in my tank?
