coraline growth
Now that my algae blooms are ending and the hair and green algae are disappearing, I have become very excited. I was just sitting in front of the tank observing and looking for organisms when I noticed my first coraline algae growth on the sides and back wall of my tank. Granted, he spots are very tiny, but by gosh they are there. I was beginning to wonder if it would ever grow.
Upon putting on my glasses and getting very close to the tank, lol, I found some tiny purple dots appearing on my live rock that had not been there before. Question: Will the growth of the purple coraline help to control or push out the other nuisance algae? I've never been clear on this issue. Also, should I let it remain on the back and side glass, or clear it off and only let it cover the rocks? Thanks everyone for your past help and advise. With the appearance of the coraline, I feel like I've reached another milestone.

yes --that is the idea---have the corraline take over the rock space--the nuisance algae can't compete and won't grow.
Yes you have reached a milestone--the growth of corraline is a good indicator of stable and acceptable water parameters--congrats

Its a slow process but when it gets going it really takes off. Make up your mind if you like it on the gass or not because it is a real pain to scrape off once it gets attached well.

Thanks for all the input. The biologist in me loves watching the tank mature.
