Mine just sits in the sump and is connected to a ground fault receptacle. It gets its grounding through the outlet's ground.

grounding probe

We've got ours running into the main tank behind some rockwork (camoflages the wire) and since those suction cups dont seem to hold after 2 weeks, a small piece of LR holds it down in place.
Plugged into the main powerstrip and grounds thru it to the GFCI. The eyelet can be mounted to the center screw on your outlet plate if you choose to. Since ours is in the powerstrip we chose not to mount the eyelet, but you could mount it to the metal case if necessary (HD 48" powerstrip)http://shop4.outpost.com/product/421...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG
for only $25 + $5 rebate.

Why exactly do you think you need a GP? This Q has been asked, and many think they cause more harm than good.
