Question A Question Regarding Angelfish Compatibility

My 55 gallon aquarium currently houses one Coral Beauty Angelfish. My LFS has a Lemonpeel. Before I make the purchase, I would like to make a request for information from those with prior experience. There are hiding spaces as well as open spaces for swimming. There is also plenty for grazing.

I have a rusty angel and tried to put a flame angel in later and the rusty almost killed him. Pulled out the flame and sold him to a friend. Two days later the rusty came down with ick. Looks great now but I should have put them in together to avoid territorial problems.

i put a coral beauty and a flame in at the same time and besides a short chase here and there, they are fine together. i only notice the bad behavior if i dont feed them some nori for a few days

I agree...I think keeping fat well fed fish allows them to not be AS territorial, cause being territorial mostly stems from dominating food sources. I think if they are well fed, you have a better shot if you add them at the same time.....never any garauntees though!!

I had a lemon peel, a coral beauty, and a flame angelfish at one time in a 55 gal. They were about the same size and well match. Other than some short chases, I didn't see them hurt each other. I think the key is the balance of power.

Did you add them at the same time?

it might be difficult to add another fish now, since the coral beauty has already settled in . If you really want the Lemonpeel then may i suggest you add the fish right after you do a waterchange and some kind of re arrangement in the tank , that might throw off the coral beauty a bit and he might think its a new tank.

Hi Boca Kris,

No, I didn't add the angels at the same time. I was quite lucky back then.

Yeah, I've heard good and bad stories....I think alot of it must be luck...and a well-established, well-fed tank....with not alot of extra stress on the fish.

Also try to eggcrate the tank in half, that way they can get used to each other and not attack.
