i have not.. but, i have read many threads and post about them.

Pros: not a dirrect flow, more of an open/spread-out flow.

Cons: ive read where some say they are noisy. it could be they were installed improperly.

sorry i couldnt offer more help, try the search engine and see what you can find.

Well I have had it running for a week now and its awesome! I just had a couple 1200's that were about a year old and for $15 to upgrade them to 1600GPH has been awesome.

I love the flow and its not as spread out as people make it sound. Its actually a really nice flow coming from them. Not as spread out as Koralias IMO. There is also no noise at all. I cant hear them any more or less than how they were before the mod. I think its a great mod and they are even smaller than the Koralia 3's in the end.

Purchased 4 Sureflow 1600 and had 3 installed--2 were noise (it wasn't so bad after a week) and 1 was quiet. Within a week and saw that GS2 (2500gph flow) came out and got 2--replaced the 2 noise one and haven't turned back.

If you have some MJ pumps around and for $15 each (sale at MD)on the SF 1600 and $22 for the GS2, I can't see how you can go wrong. If you've MJ 400, 600 or 900 (if I remember right there only consume 8.5W on the MJ 900) use it for 1600gph flow and if you've the MJ 1200 (20W) get the 2500gph flow kit.

Right now I'm running 2 GS2, 1 SF on a MJ 1200 (I wish I got 1 more GS2), 2 K4s, and a Tunze 6000 on a single controller and the flow in the 180g is wild.

In this hobby I think that was the best $$ I've spent.

I have a sureflow 1600 kit on a MJ1200. It was noisy until I changed the Sureflow endcaps with the original Maxijet ones. For some reason the Sureflow endcaps are made from a softer material. The 1600 Sureflow kit has been completely silent after changing the endcaps.

I really like them. Smaller and restart without problem unlike the 2 Seio's I have. Nice flow.

Am I better off going with a sureflow kit on my mj1200's or just picking up a hydor or tunze?

The Sureflow 1600 Kits are definitely worth it to me. It is a nice wide/ heavy flow. It can be used on a wave timer and relatively inexpensive, especially if you already have the MJ pump. I highly reccomend the magnet holders with them. For about $40 you can get the kit and magnet holder.

The Sureflow kit is not as large either. Hydors are really BIG and look that way in modest sized tanks. Tunze are definitely nice and a quality product but you are also paying for that. The Sureflow 1600 MJ mod puts out more flow than the Tunze nano's. If you decide to spend the $$ on Tunze streams, go with the larger versions that are controllable. For the money the Sureflow 1600 Kits cannot be beat IMO.

sureflows produce more flow. Theyre alittle bigger but have good positioning ability when using the magnets and magnet mount. I use one in my 90g and its great.

I have 2 sureflows on MJ1200's and the flow is great as is the holder. I already had the magnets so mounting them is a cinch. Mine are noisy. Them hum so I'll be changing the endcaps on the prop shaft. Also they are on a wavemaker and they chatter on each start. MJ1200 may be great on wavemakers (Wavemaker Pro) but the modded MJ's are not. The prop shoots out and hit the anti reversing stop each and everytime they start. I'm guessing that all of the mod designs would have this same problem.

I had 2 mjmoded 1200s. Incredible flow. After several months one broke, and 1 became more noisy, and I replaced with Koralias (4's?, the biggest ones). The Koralias might not have quite the flow, both mine are nearly SILENT. I think my fish would thank me. If this is for a 55, 2 to 4 of those ought to give you decent flow. I'm using two in my 75 and flow is not bad. The price of the Koralias is cheaper than building your own if you factor in magnet holders. I say Koralias are the best value. One day I will get Tunzes or VorTechs.
